I mean, a guy asking a girl to get down and chickening out isn't as funny when you've been through it. But crying like he did in that first movie was hilarious... especially when you can relate.

i found it quite sad actually that he'd rather drink and be emo then nail misa kuroki....dumb bastard

In Genji's defense for being emo in the second movie, you have to remember this is like 7 months later from the first film. And he was trying to fight Rindaman by the end of 1. So for 7 months he's been having his ass handed to him by the same guy. Not to mention all the shit that actually happens in the movie. Storyline wise he should be emo.

But he can't be emo... 'cause he's got REAL problems. That automatically knocks him out of that category.

I actually really like Genji's darkness, it's much more realistic than Bouya and Hana's light-heartedness.

You're right. Because no one, anywhere, is ever happy. Ever.

Lies, Genji is happy in CZ1 when Makise jizzed in his pants. Bit of gayness there?

Seriously though, I felt the Narumi fight was better as they were both fucked by the time kicked off, the ammount of blood in the scene was epic (blood wasn't too obvious, just watch Narumi's vest throughout) and the introduction to it when Genji burst through the door was very well done.

Some more random thoughts after rewatching both films:

When I had first seen CZII I was a bit disappointed. After repeated viewings, I realized that I had come to like it more and more, and now I believe I actually prefer it over the first film for a number of reasons.

    - The actors are more comfortable/confident/playful in their performances. For mostly every single returning character there is a character development moment in the second one that is either more interesting or fun. It's like a superhero film. The first one has to tell the origin story so there's more exposition and explanation while the sequel can actually explore the characters and their relationships.

    - I've said this elsewhere, but there's more eccentricity to the sequel. Serizawa is so much more fun than in the first. There was just something not right about the character in CZ, but in II it's as if the actor and character have found their stride.

    - Again, the fleshed out rivalries and relationships. Love the interaction between Genji and Tokio, Genji and Serizawa, Tokaji and Izaki etc.

    - The addition of the Housen Kanbu. Narumi, Matoba, and Ryo are all great additions and even with a cast that large, the film doesn't feel muddled. Of course I could have done without the whole Kawanishi subplot but you win some...

    - The setpieces are better. The Game of Death/Kung-Fueseque ascension of Housen Gakuken is much more exciting than the final brawl in CZ. All in all, there are more scenes and moves in II that I found myself rewatching again and again. The choreography is better and more thought out.

It would have been nice if they had continued with the series and kept cranking them out like the Lone Wolf and Cub films.

they would most likely have to go into already established cannon (bouya) and that would cause massive amount of otaku rage the likes of which the world has never seen......i'm cool with a umihoshi story arc though to fill in the gaps from the gaiden or even when genji's dad was there with ken and his ex oyabun

That was my reaction as well, but at this point I think they should just throw caution to the wind and the start adapting Crows. I'm sure somewhere there's a dude that would do Bouya justice. Also, since the supporting characters have already been established, assuming the same actors are onboard, it would soften the blow compared to jumping in with a full cast of maybes.

More than anything, I'd like to see what kind of actor they could get for Yasuda and more to the point... the hairstyle.
